Our Favourite Campfire Treats

smores-camping

Whether you’re pulling up to the campsite in a new travel trailer, a converted van, or the family camper, nothing quite says ‘camping’ like whipping up some treats by the fire! Taking care of dessert in the great outdoors is relatively easy with a few tools (a cast-iron skillet, wooden spoon, and some tinfoil is all you need for most of these recipes) and a warm fire. You can get the kids involved to help pass some time if they’re antsy, or wait until they’re in bed so you can enjoy a tray of treats on your own – don’t worry, we won’t tell!

Today on the Get-Away RV blog, our team was inspired to share some of their favourite campfire treats (both kid and adult approved!) from their RV adventures this summer. Of course, you can always rely on a delicious s’more, but some of our staff members were thinking a bit outside the box on their recent camping trips. Take a peek at our favourite sweet recipes and let us know if you try them out for yourself!

Banana Boats

We’ve already warned you that tinfoil is about to become your campsite BFF, and this recipe is no exception! Banana boats are a bit like a cross between a banana spit and s’mores, and we like ‘em because they’re easily customizable. No fighting over which toppings or flavours to use since everybody gets to make their own – plus it contains a banana, which absolutely makes it a healthy treat, right?!

Easy Campfire Cinnamon Rolls

Full disclosure: we’ll look for any excuse to turn dessert into breakfast while on a camping trip. That’s why we love the idea of making a huge batch of gooey cinnamon rolls over the campfire. It’s remarkably easy to prep: simply slice your rolled dough (either homemade or store-bought) and fill your skillet with the rolls; slather in butter and cinnamon, bake over your hot coals for about 10 minutes, and top with frosting. Round out this breakfast treat with bacon, eggs, fruit, and coffee.

Skillet Brownies

There is nothing quite like ooey, gooey brownies around the campfire. This recipe is easy to put together from scratch inside the trailer, and then cook up over the fire. Plus, we’re still relying on the same few tools we mentioned above: a cast iron skillet and tinfoil. Find some local ice cream to dollop on top and this is sure to be a real crowd pleaser.

Sweet Burritos

This is another idea that we like for the customization component. Plus, it’s super simple and so delicious. Simply stuff a flour tortilla with your favourite sweet ingredients, fold up like a burrito, roll in tinfoil and pop them onto hot coals to cook. A few of our favourite combos:

  • Peanut butter, chocolate, marshmallows and banana
  • Peaches, sugar and pecans
  • Strawberries, marshmallows and chocolate chips

Get-Away RV Loves BC Camping

We’re grateful to live in a place like British Columbia that offers such an abundance of camping opportunities. Whether you’re looking for hiking, boating, skiing, or simply to relax, there’s a camping spot for everyone in this fine province. Take a peek at our article about campgrounds near Vancouver and Vancouver Island for more ideas on where to take your motorhome, trailer, toy hauler, or converted van for your next camping adventure.

We love to help our customers get into the right RV for their lifestyle. Some folks visit us looking to trade up for a unit that can fit their growing family, while others require a unit that can fit their ATVs in the back, and others still are looking to downsize into a minimalist converted van for two. Whatever your idea of adventure is, we have a unit here at Get-Away RV that is guaranteed to suit your needs and budget.
