Van conversions first started in the 70s with the VW microbus and became increasing popular by the 80s. More luxury features were added for comfort and style such as thicker seats, wood trim, and lighting. Families and retirees were attracted to the convenience of camper vans as they were agile and easy to drive for quick get-aways, road trips and camping.

 

 

Once again van conversions are becoming a popular alternative to the bigger motor homes. In comparison the advantages are that camper vans cost less to run than a Class A motorhome. They are easy to park anywhere whether you are stopping to explore the city or escaping to the peaceful countryside. Other advantages of camper vans are that you're not tied to campgrounds, you have the convenience of home while camping, and you needn't worry about finding a hotel on your travels.  

 

 

When considering a conversion to any vehicle it's crucial to ask all the important questions to establish your exact needs. Once your needs are established we can plan a functional custom design that's tailored for you. 

In a custom design, if you desired a functioning kitchen with gas appliances,  the roof raised in order to stand and have permanent storage, and possibly two sleeping areas

 

In planning the design we will need to consider such things as which roof top is best suited and whether you will want extra windows for ventilation and airflow. Then we'll determine where to place the kitchen and where to place the vents. As well as determining a suitable gas system and the placement of hook ups. Then ensuring adequate sleeping arrangements are included. Once this has been completed your functional custom design is ready and we can begin.

 

Depending on the van, we start by taking everything out until it's been stripped down to the bare metal walls. Then we cut the roof off, add any additional windows, vents and utility hook ups. Once that's completed it's time to install the roof top and then we go to work on the floor, insulation, and rough-ins. 

 

When the basics have been completed we start bringing in the custom cabinets and slowly things start to take shape. Once cabinets and appliances are installed wall liners go up and then we finish off with all the left over components like seating or bed area. Finally when everything is in place we work on the trim and add the finishing touches.
